Our RSCH and Frimley Park
Urology Nursing Team
"They are terrific" say Consultants John Davies and Bruce Montgomery – and absolutely vital to the future development of our Urology Departments.
The role of the specialist nurse is growing in stature and importance in hospitals throughout the UK. Nurses who have extended their general RGN qualification by specialising in a chosen area are today able to cover many of the diagnostic and treatment procedures previously only handled by Consultants. This frees Consultants to see more patients and dramatically cuts waiting times for consultations.
Here in the Guildford and Frimley Urology departments, we are extremely fortunate to have an excellent team of specialist Urology Nurses. MIchele Pietrasik is the longest serving member of our team. She says "It is so rewarding working as part of this Urology team. The Royal Surrey is generally regarded to be among the country's most advanced centres for the detection and treatment of prostate cancer and it is great to be part of that success".
Julie Love was appointed as the Cancer Research Nurse at Frimley Park in July 2003. Her current work includes a trial that is looking at the genetic & familial link in prostate cancer, specifically trying to work out why prostate cancer is occurring in younger men. Further information about Clinical Trials can be found at the 'Patrick Centre' or via your consultant.
