Steve Owen achieves a lifetime ambition and raises £15,000.
Brixton plc Deputy Chief Executive, Steven Owen, was one of a select group of people who recently walked the 60 miles across the arctic ice cap which takes you from 89º latitude to the North Pole. He was part of a 15-strong team led by Pete Goss and Alan Chambers. The expedition was part of Goss' and Chambers' final preparations to follow in Captain Scott's footsteps across the Antarctic later this year.
All the participants were raising money for charity and Steve was raising funds for the Prostate Project . He reported that "the prospect of raising a large amount of cash for this very worthy cause helped me grit my teeth, forget the cold, dodge the polar bears and keep moving forwards!"
His training regime - which raised some eyebrows among his neighbours - included walking with the aid of ski poles while pulling an old car tyre. During the expedition each team member was required to pull a 100lb sled loaded with supplies. Fellow team members included Carphone Warehouse founder Charles Dunstone and former Capital radio Chief Executive, Richard Eyre.
