Prostate Project Foundation to fund a Professor of Urological Oncology at University of Surrey Postgraduate Medical School

The front cover of our appeal brochure

Motivated almost entirely by the extraordinary generosity of one anonymous donor, the Prostate Project looks set to make a significant contribution to prostate cancer research.

The funding for this project, under the banner of The Prostate Project Foundation, is to be quite separate to that of the Project which will continue its activities as before. This is, in essence, one man’s determination to accelerate the national research effort into improving treatments for prostate cancer.

We are attempting to raise £250,000 on top of monies we already have to fund a Chair of Urological Oncology at the University of Surrey Postgraduate Medical School. The Chair and its department will carry out clinically focused prostate cancer research in close cooperation with the Urology and Oncology departments of the Royal Surrey County Hospital and St Luke’s Cancer Centre.

Here in Guildford, we are uniquely positioned to initiate this research project. We have a large, increasingly successful District General Hospital that has been selected as a Centre of Excellence for the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. We have a team of highly committed Urology and Oncology Consultants who are international leaders in their fields and specialists in leading edge technologies. Each of them are highly skilled in their chosen area of expertise and collectively they can offer all treatment options currently available for prostate cancer.

And finally, we have the new and adjacent Post Graduate Medical School whose work is primarily focused on research. The integration of medical disciplines and the close relationship between the University and RSCH make the Postgraduate Medical School the ideal place to undertake a project of this nature. Money donated to The Prostate Project Foundation will only be used for research purposes.
